Our feet are very important, they carry us from place to place and when our feet hurt, our whole body seems to hurt. That's why it's so important to take good care of our feet. One of the best ways to do this is with a good pedicure.
In order to care for our feet, we should keep in mind some of the following:
- Never cut your toenails down into the sides too far trying to cut out an ingrown toenail. When you try to do this, more often then not, you are only creating a new ingrown toenail for next month. Most people create a jagged edge that will grow into the flesh later. A podiatrist is better suited to remove the ingrown properly. Also, let the skin callus up a little in this area to help protect the skin on the side of the nail.
- Try not to cut your nails too short. This only increases risks of infection, either bacterial or fungal. And fungal infection in the toenails are extremely difficult to get rid of. In most cases, medical treatment is required.
- If the skin on the bottom of your feet crack, you'll need to use a good foot cream specifically for this type of condition. Some types of cracked skin can be due to excessive callus and some can be due to a fungal infection. Check with your doctor in severe cases or a beauty professional for milder cases for a recommendation on the type of cream to use. Regular body lotions usually won't moisturize the feet enough to do much good. Use the cream 1-2 times per day or as directed.
- If you are diabetic, see your doctor before performing any type of pedicure either on yourself or professionally done. There are different types of risks involved, especially if you have a neuropathy.
